Long time member of the Bryant community, Joe Wishard, passed away on January 14, 2018. Joe, affectionately known as Mr. Hornet, was a proud supporter of Bryant Public Schools where he served as a dedicated school board member for 10 years. He had a lifetime love for athletics, and more importantly, for young people.

Wishard first became involved in the Bryant School District as PTO president for Salem Elementary where his son attended school. It wasn’t long before Wishard expanded his role in the community through service with the Bryant Chamber of Commerce, first as a member, then a board member, and finally president of the board in 2010.

Mr. Wishard worked for St. Vincent Health System for 42 years. He was honored with the Sister Teresa Joseph Babcock Service Excellence Award from St. Vincent shortly before his retirement.

Always one to value education, Joe spent many hours dedicated to his role as a Bryant School Board member. Before his death, he was given the prestigious Arkansas School Board Association President’s Award for earning 500 hours or more in continuing education credit.

Mr. Wishard’s loving heart for students, their education, and the Bryant community will be dearly missed.
