A retired nurse came in my office today. She wants to be useful in her community beyond the already wonderful contribution she makes by helping her daughter and grandchildren out.  She has a heart for service. One thing she wants to do is help kids who are struggling with reading.  She wants to assure them they can and will learn and have productive and full lives.  As a child, she struggled. And she wants to be able to say to Children today that she has been where they are and got through it. We referred her to Bryant Public Schools and the Boys and Girls Club of Bryant.
She walked in at just the time I had been thinking about plans for the Chamber for next year. One of the things I was thinking about was creating a Retired Professional Network.
She liked the idea. But she is here about 4 to 6 weeks and then gone from Bryant for 4 to 6 weeks.  So the challenge with a retired professionals network might be how mobile this age group is…often going to see other children and grandchildren in other parts of the nation. How would we keep meetings going through all this in and out? Or how do we stay connected in not by meetings?  A friends group on social media?  How comfortable are folks with that?
So, I am still pondering this. If you have thoughts, please share them! #thinkingonretireepower!
